Mascotte, a Test Bench for Cryogenic Propellant Combustion Studies Perspectives, References
In oxygen/hydrogen operation, the Mascotte cryotechnic combustion test bench provides pressures and flow mass rates comparable to those of a Vulcain injection element. Though many results have been obtained on LOX/H2 combustion, notably on flame structure and anchoring, these results should be completed with more quantitative data (CARS thermometry, velocimetry), especially at high pressure.
As the bench has also been adapted for studying LOX/CH4 combustion, a similar test program is being conducted with these propellants. The first tests conducted under typical gas generator operating conditions have already generated remarkable measurements and observations.
Acknowledgments
The authors would like to thank the CNES and Snecma Moteurs for their support of these studies, and all the Onera and CNRS technicians and scientists who contributed to their success.
