Acoustic Chambers

Two acoustic chambers are available at ONERA/DMAE: an anechoïc room and a reverberant one. In order to make researchs, studies or for pedagogic purposes DMAE is using these two facilities.

They are entirely unjointly beside the external building.

The main characteristics of these facilities are described below.

- Anechoïc room

  • Size:
    • length : 8 meters
    • width : 4 meters
    • height : 4,5 meters
    • aperture : 2,10 x 1,20 m2
  • Cut-off frequency : about : 90 Hz
  • Temperature stabilized : from 15 to 25 °C
  • Relative humidity : from 30 to 60 %
  • Compressed air : pressure : 7 bars
  • Silent exhaust hod

Walls, ceiling and ground are unparallel to avoid fundamental acoustic modes.

Walls are built with concrete and internal hard coat, covered by an epoxy painting.Coupled with the soundproofing room.

  • Size:
    • volume : 45 m3
    • wall surface : 78 m2
    • aperture : 1,20 x 1,50 m2
  • Reverberation time : global 7 seconds
  • ressure level : global 131 dB.
  • Compressed air pressure 7 bars
