Ultra-Sensitive Accelerometry and Space Projects

The Physics, Instrumentation and Sensing Department [DMPH] designs and develops on-board instruments combining high-precision mechanical systems with very low-noise electronics, especially at very low frequencies, as well as optimized control loops. The know-how acquired in the field of ultra-sensitive accelerometry is widely recognized, and in recent years has led to participation in many scientific space missions, all in international cooperation.

The space accelerometers designed, constructed and qualified by the Department are used in four fields of application:

• Earth and planetary observation
• Microgravity
• Fundamental physics
• Satellite orbital control systems.

In synergy with the above developments, the department also conducts expert appraisals concerning high-precision instrumentation for inertial navigation and gravimetry.
