ADO - Data association

Objective

To establish exact matches among a sequence of image-originated observations (image / image association) or between observations and a model of the object space (image / model association).

Contribution

Data association is a prior condition for numerous applications: calibration and exposure calculation, stereo vision and 3D reconstruction and processing of sequences. The high rates of false alarms and non-detections make this task difficult, with possible combinations that quickly become computationally explosive.

The DTIM has developed image/model resetting techniques specifically adapted to the precision terminal guidance of cruise missiles. An application has also been found for them in developments concerning the tracking of significant points in the sequences.

The work done at the DTIM also concerns the "SoftAssign" technique (a method by continuity that jointly estimates the pattern matches and a distortion) which was re-visited and applied to estimating view taking conditions (also called exposure calculation) and to target identification on radar images by use of diffraction zones.
