ANAÏS 3D - Analysis in 3D imaging
CV/ES - Virtual camera in a synthetic environment

In the intelligence field, the data provided by the different observation systems is increasingly rich and accurate, but remains difficult to master. Several teams are working together at Onera to develop methods and tools that can be used convert this raw data into high level information for feeding decision support systems.

These systems can use, amongst other things, sequences of images acquired by sensors during flight campaigns. Thinking about the quality of these systems, two problems appear. On the one hand, the sequences available are quite limited in number and variety; while on the other hand, we do not have sufficient control in terms of the geometry, sensor and scene content. But to improve and validate the tools developed, it is essential that we examine the responses of the image interpretation algorithms to specific scenarios. One of the ways of remedying this problem is a simulation in which a sequence of images is synthesized after the pertinent scenarios are defined: carrier motion, sensor characteristics and paths of the moving objects.

Therefore, the objective is to create software that can be used to define a scenario and generate the sequences of images corresponding to it. The input data is:

  • altimetric data (NMT and 3D models),
  • texture images (horizontal and vertical views),
  • models of moving objects.

The software, currently under development, already allows us to:

  • produce a "photo-realist" 3D environment,
  • generate a visibility mask,
  • define the trajectories of one or more sensors,
  • integrate 3D models of moving objects along with their paths,
  • generate sequences of images from a sensor with defined parameters.

This software forms a 3D host platform offering a large variety of functionalities as well as the possibility of easily adding new ones.
