ATR - Automatic target recognition

Objective

  • To design data processing algorithms to identify objects of interest from imagers.

Contribution

The functions grouped under the acronym ATR are part of the general field of data, signal and image interpretation. They consist of producing a decision about the nature of objects or phenomena of interest observed by an imager.

Such functions are of interest in fields as varied as remote detection, security, intelligence, situation analysis and fire control for military systems, subjects that the DTIM has been involved with for many years.

The techniques used are generally based on a learning phase that uses information or data sets from various sources. DTIM's specific contribution is to make use of characteristics from the aerospace field, namely the type of imager and the small amount of available data, for designing and calibrating ATR functions.
