High Performance Computing

Objectives

  • To increase the field of application and quality of numerical simulation by the development of multi-domain, multi-scale models and by coupling..
  • To introduce efficient parallel methods to solve these models on massively parallel computers with distributed memory.

Context

Numerical simulation of physical phenomena has become a major preoccupation in the design phase of any aircraft or space system. This discipline must face up to new requirements in both the richness and complexity of simulations, which must therefore take multi-scale or multi-physics aspects into account.

The production of high performance numerical simulation software requires work on all aspects of scientific computing: mathematical modelling and numerical analysis, numerical methods and algorithms, methodology and tools to implement parallel distributed computers.

The DTIM department is working on these themes with all of the ONERA departments responsible for the development of large scientific codes and also with industrial partners.
