Interpretation

Objectives

  • To design methods for reconstructing the 3D environment using various techniques (monoscopy, stereoscopy, interferometry) and high resolution observation imagers.
  • To design algorithms for performing the Detection, Recognition and Identification functions using data from various imagers and exogenous sources in the context of decision making support.
  • To participate in the design of observation and surveillance systems

Contribution

Due to the increase in the quantity and complexity of the digital data available we need to create tools that can manage it efficiently, extract the pertinent operational information and provide support for decision making. The role of the interpretation functions is to provide a standardized symbolic or quantitative representation of data that has a precise operational meaning.

The target areas of application are intelligence and surveillance from aerospace sensors and decision making support in limited or deferred time.

The design of interpretation functions takes into account the specific nature of the signals (optical, EM, active/passive, etc.) and the operational constraints (computing time available, expected level of performance); it may also make use of context information (auxiliary data, knowledge, etc.) to limit the complexity of the hypotheses being handled.
