Modeling and Information Processing

MC2 - Modeling and capitalization of knowledge

Objective

  • To design tools for the formal modeling and evaluation of distributed complex systems and the associated data exchanges.
  • To model and capitalize on architectures of control, command, communication and information systems for surveillance

Contribution

The progress of telecommunications and the emergence, or more like explosion, of Web techniques have generated new needs and prospects for communication, control, command and information systems where the natural distribution of resources requires the creation of new concepts which are grouped under the acronym NCW standing for Network Centric Warfare.

In the context of these new concepts, the interoperability between the information and command systems involves not only the level of exchange support but above all the content level, i.e. a common semantics of the exchanged data shared by systems.

By modeling, accumulating and distributing knowledge about the exchanges of data between systems we can build up a reference system composed of conceptual data models and processes that are available for designing and developing interoperable communication, control, command and information systems for surveillance.

The work done at the DTIM on this activity mainly concerns the following technical aspects:

  • data fusion and intelligence expertise in the surveillance domain
  • modeling of systems and modeling of systems of systems
  • interoperability analysis and evaluation
  • data links and networks
  • evaluation of information
