Particle Image Velocimetry

Particle Image Velocimetry

  • 1 Computing power at the service of measurement

PIV* is a method used to chart speeds in flows... Two ONERA engineer researcher teams- one of experimental aerodynamicists, the other data processing experts specializing in image processing, have together developed the FOLKI*-SPIV software for high-speed processing of sequences of PIV images (Particle Image Velocimetry)
  • 2 Understanding the Turbulence that Causes Jet Noise

Velocity measurements using high-repetition-rate stereoscopic PIV make it possible to observe the large scale dynamics of jet turbulence in a wind tunne, opening the way to progress in the understanding of jet noise generation. For the first time, in the ONERA R4Ch wind-tunnel at Meudon, a series of PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) data acquisitions was carried out at a high rate (2500 images per second), in the R4 Wind Tunnel at Meudon

Stereo Particle Image Velocimetry (SPIV... Time Resolved PIV (TR-PIV), Background Oriented Schlieren (BOS), Pressure Sensitive Paint (PSP), acoustic measurement with wall-mounted microphone array
  • 4 DGV, Doppler Global Velocimetry or the photography of velocity by laser

PIV, or Particle Image Velocimetry. PIV, more economical and less complex to implement needs powerful computers
