Welcome to Onera, the French Aerospace Lab |
News ReleasesOctober 2008Mechanics of Materials - International recognition for an Onera specialistJean-Louis Chaboche, an Onera engineer-researcher, has been given a place of honor in the International Journal of Plasticity as the subject of a special issue. Jean-Louis Chaboche is know first and foremost for several mechanics of materials models used in industry throughout the world.
Jean-Louis Chaboche, the author of and contributor to models and reference publications, was honored in 2008 in a special issue of the International Journal of Plasticity. Jean-Louis Chaboche has worked at Onera since 1969. In 1980, he received a prize from the Académie des Sciences and, in 1998, the silver medal of the CNRS. In 2006, he was the first winner of the Khan medal. Jean-Louis Chaboche is professor at the University of Troyes and as director of research he continuously co-supervises four or five doctoral students. In 1985, with his professor and co-writer Jean Lemaitre, an Onera engineer who became a professor at the Ecole Normale Supérieure of Cachan and the P. and M. Curie University, he published the work "Mechanics of solid materials". This work, which has been translated into several languages, including Chinese, is unanimously recognized as the reference both on university campuses and in industrial design offices. These two specialists have been major figures at an internationally renowned French school of mechanics of materials and damage. For the last fifteen years, Jean-Louis Chaboche has been more interested in the couplings of mechanics of materials, at more physical scales (dislocations etc.) and his work is contributing to new techniques implemented at Onera: multi-scale mechanics of materials and structure with applications to composites as well as metals. |
