27th ICAS Congress in Nice: a major success

The 27th ICAS (International Council of the Aeronautical Sciences) congress was held at the Acropolis center in Nice from September 19 to 24, 2010. France had not hosted this biannual get-together since 1984.

Despite the still difficult economy, the congress was a major success, attracting over 700 participants from around the world. Onera was a congress sponsor, and also stood out because of its attractive stand featuring a striking model of the wing developed for the European project AVERT (Aerodynamic Validation of Emission Reducing Technologies), manufactured by Onera’s Lille facility, and tested in Onera’s Modane wind tunnels in March.

Onera welcomed Christian Estrosi, French Minister of Industry, the mayor of Nice and president of the Nice Côte d’Azur regional council, who visited the stand right after his speech, along with Michel Scheller, President of 3AF, and Christian Mari, Executive Vice President of Messier-Bugatti and head of the organizing committee. Twenty-six staff members from Onera were mobilized for this major congress, and undoubtedly contributed to its success. This broad presence enabled Onera to make extensive contacts throughout the event.
