Drones – Infra-Red Cameras for Anti-Collision

A campaign conducted with gliders to collect infrared signatures and background measurements, in order to draw up optronics specifications for anti-collision sensors.

As part of the Onera research project to demonstrate the feasibility and acceptability of an innovative and safe concept for the insertion of drones in air traffic, a measurement campaign has been conducted at the aerodromes at Romarin (Saint Rémy de Provence) and Caume (Parc Naturel Régional des Alpilles), using Onera band II and III infra-red cameras.

The results of the campaign included signatures of gliders, sequences of images of aerial obstacles, and the measurement of backgrounds for the purpose of drawing up the optronics specifications for passive anti-collision sensors, and to develop the associated processing.
