Environment – Award for a lidar specialist

Jean-Pierre Cariou, lidar specialist, who left Onera in 2007 to join the SME Leosphere, has been awarded with the Chéreau-Lavet 2010 Engineer-Inventor prize.

On Monday 17th January, Jean-Pierre Cariou, a lidar specialist, received the Chéreau-Lavet 2010 Engineer-Inventor prize for the application of Lidar technology (Light Detection And Ranging) to anemometric measurement from the hands of Cédric Villani, mathematician, director of the Poincaré Institute and winner of the Fields medal in 2010. The prize is worth €15,000.

Jean-Pierre Cariou, former researcher at the Theoretical and Applied Optics department at Onera (1984 to 2007), has become Director of Research and Development at Leosphere, one of the PME partners of Onera, specializing in the study of the atmosphere using lidar technology: the monitoring of high atmosphere pollution, meteorological measurement of clouds, wind, humidity, improving airport traffic flows, research into climate change, etc.
