2007 Paris Air Show
Onera showcases Return on Innovation

Châtillon, June 18, 2007 - Onera has organized its stand at this year’s Paris Air Show around its new corporate baseline, introduced early this year: Return on Innovation.

Return on Innovation expresses Onera’s basic mission and pledge: to convert research and solutions into successful applications for the companies and organizations that have placed their trust in Onera. Research at Onera, whether short, medium or long-term, always targets applications. It results in innovative solutions transferred to industry and addressing the challenges facing Society. These achievements were recognized in 2007, when Onera received the “Carnot label” from the French national institute of research.

Furthermore, by leveraging its expertise and understanding of industry’s requirements, Onera helps tackle tomorrow’s challenges by proposing the appropriate research paths. For example, Onera is working on such key subjects as alternative fuels and new aircraft concepts (e.g., flying wings).

Onera’s stand at the Paris Air Show will present several of the major aerospace programs in which it played an important role. In particular, it will focus on the following areas:

  • helicopter research
  • space surveillance, through the Graves radar system in particular
  • UCAV (unmanned combat air vehicles)
  • the future air transport system.

Onera will also be using demonstrations to focus on its proven expertise in advanced simulation:

  • Software solutions: aerodynamics, energetics, structures, materials, electromagnetism, optics, etc. In all of these areas, Onera integrates its knowledge in numerical simulation tools (CFD, etc.), proven through experimentation and configured for use by industry.
  • HLA (high level architecture) distributed simulation, through the Genesis tool developed by Onera to simulate complex systems. A demonstration will show how it can be applied to a total air defense scenario.

Events at the show

Onera will organize several events open to the press:

  • Monday, June 18, 11:00 am to 12 Noon (EREA stand – F12): presentation of Onera’s research on beating wing microdrones.
  • Monday, June 18, 3:00 to 4:00 pm (EREA stand – F12): in honor of the helicopter centenary, presentation of joint Onera-DLR helicopter research program.
  • Wednesday, June 20, 11:00 am to 12 Noon (EREA stand – F12): presentation of the Aero Testing Alliance (ATA), a European consortium formed by Onera and DNW, representing the largest fleet of wind tunnels in Europe.
