Quasicrystals – at ONERA, a CNRS researcher involved with the Nobel Prize for Chemistry 2011
Denis Gratias, associate director of the Microstructures Research Laboratory (LEM), is one of the pioneers in quasicrystals. He is in fact one of the co-authors of the publication that made Dan Shechtman’s discovery public (Nobel Prize winner for Chemistry 2011).
Laser - A World First with the achievement of an ultra-short pulse fibre laser emitting at 2 µm
More reliable and more efficient, this laser will have direct application in gas spectrometry. Other application fields: ophthalmic surgery.
Fundamental Physics - the Microscope Mission has been confirmed for 2017
ONERA Palaiseau - September, 19th. Theoreticians and investigators in fundamental physics in space came to support the Microscope space mission. Microscope is a satellite (Cnes project) designed to confirm or invalidate the principle of equivalence which is the basis of the theory of general relativity of Einstein. The decision to launch Microscope in 2017 has been confirmed by the French space agency CNES in December 2011.
Fundamental Physics – A First for a Cold Atom Accelerometer
Onera is taking part in ICE, a project to verify the principle of equivalence on the microscopic scale, using measurements with a cooled atom accelerometer. The instrument was developed in parabolic flight, a first that earned the partners a publication in the journal Nature Communications.

Campaign to assess the behavior of the Ressac helicopter UAV demonstrator over the sea, for the monitoring of surface ships.

A demonstration of active control of wing flutter by control surfaces was successfully confirmed in the ONERA S2Ma wind tunnel.
International - Declaration of the International Forum for Aviation Research IFAR
The second IFAR Summit took place in the frame of the Paris Air show and on invitation of ONERA in Méry-sur-Oise, 18–19 June 2011. The participants represent the heads or the high level representatives from 20 aviation research organisations worldwide.
Launchers - Ariane 5 and Ariane 6 at Onera Fauga-Mauzac Testing Facilities
