Micro Indentation up to 1000°C: Coatings Application

Applications

High temperature microindentation bench (20 to 900°C)

Indenter tip in contact with the material at 800°C

 > Aerospace

  • High temperature thermal barrier coatings for turbine blades.
  • Innovative high temperature materials (ceramics, metals, coatings etc.).

 > Automotive

  • New coatings for high temperature applications.

 > Industry

  • Glass processing expertise.

Keywords

  • Instrumented indentation, High temperature, Micromechanical test, Behaviour law, Young's Modulus, Creep properties.

Advantages

  • Unique high temperature micro indentation testing to determine mechanical properties of local material.
  • Accurate life-time prediction of thermal barrier coatings.
  • Local influence of material composition.

Testing

  • Continuous measurements at low load (1-4 N) and small displacement (1-10 µm).
  • Temperature range: 20 – 1000° C.
  • Heating rate: 10 °C/mn.
  • Atmosphere: Argon.
  • Indent punch: Diamond or Ruby Vickers.
  • Sample test size: 4x5x10 mm (custom size possible).
