Science PicturesPSP Global Pressures on the Wing of a Commercial Airliner
A pressure sensitive paint is applied to a model, which is then illuminated. The intensity of the emitted fluorescence varies with the oxygen concentration in the flow (as pressure increases, intensity decreases). Using the PSP technique, we can generate mean flow pressure maps, to avoid having to use a large number of local pressure transducers. ONERA and DLR are co-coordinating development of this technique to improve paint quality, make paints sensitive to non-stationary phenomena and optimize data processing. |
