The multi-disciplinary character at Onera

The Federating Research Projects

The Onera is a targeted research body and is therefore essentially multi-disciplinary. For a little over 10 years this potential has been exploited through self-financed multi-disciplinary research projects. These projects are generally generated using a bottom up approach and are therefore well up on scientific current events, but they are also part of an orientation approach specific to the Office and consistent with industrial requirements.

  • The Federating Research Projects, carried out within ONERA after stringent selection, are the subject of a 4-year financial commitment; they are often positioned at a pre-application level which means that their natural extension is a contract.
  • The Federative Aerospace  Research Projects associate partner laboratories (CNRS) with ONERA and are positioned a little further upstream.

Several projects have reached such a level of maturity that ONERA can now plan developments in the context of different applications in partnership with interested industries, governments or academia:

Recently, the transverse structure constituted by PRFs was strengthened by setting up coordinated research axes which aim to develop a coordinated complementary capabilities network within ONERA either to form a multi-disciplinary virtual laboratory or to develop a methodological base common to several disciplines, or even to capitalize on the coordinated knowledge.
