RAMJET, SCRAMJET and PDE - an introduction... Ramjet ou statoréacteur... The Ramjet Pioneers (1913 - 1947)... M. STECHKIN, SSSR (ramjet theory, 1929)... The French word " statoréacteur " has been created in 1945 by Maurice ROY (before : " trompes ou tuyères thermopropulsives "). The British adopted " Athodyd " (AeroTHermODYnamic Duct) before using ramjet....

5.High-Speed Airbreathing Propulsion for the Hypersonic Vehicle JAPHAR - ONERA's Science Pictures
Ramjets * *, relatively simple engines with no moving parts, are airbreathing engines.... The principle was devised by the French engineer Lorin in 1913. Currently, ramjets are used operationally only to power cruise missiles, like ASMP cruise missiles, around Mach 3.... When a ramjet flies at supersonic speed, the internal airflow remains subsonic because it has to be slowed down to reach the high temperatures and pressures required....

6.Missiles (MISS3)
Ramjet or Ducted Rocket Propulsion for Missiles... Principle of ramjet propulsion... The use of ramjets or ducted rockets allows missiles to go farther and faster without excessively increasing their weight and size.... These missiles exceed a speed of Mach 2, during cruise flight using an integrated solid booster housed in the combustion chamber of the ramjet system....

7.Transatmospheric Aircraft (AHYP1)
Like a ramjet, it compresses the air simply by slowing it down in the air intake, but the speed remains supersonic at the combustor inlet and throughout the engine, which is why this type of engine is called scramjet (for supersonic combustion ramjet)....
