ONERA in the spotlight at the Singapore Airshow

Bruno Sainjon, Chief Executive Officer of ONERA, visited the Singapore Airshow, held from 15–18 February, at the invitation of Mr Cheong Chee Hoo, CEO of the Singapore National Centre of Defence R&D (DSO).

Accompanying Mr. Sainjon were his directors of international affairs and the defence programme, along with the director of SONDRA. Focus on a busy schedule of meetings and encounters.

The Singapore Air Show 2022 was an opportunity for ONERA to strengthen its ties and collaborations with its partners in the region.
Among the highlights for ONERA was the participation, as guest of honour, of Bruno Sainjon at SATEC 2022*.

ONERA has significant involvement in numerous research alliances in France and internationally. As far as Asia is concerned, Singapore remains ONERA’s leading scientific partner in the region, thanks to unique cooperation with the DSO, which has been ongoing for 24 years. From this point of view, the SONDRA** laboratory illustrates the strong commitment and support of partner nations with CentraleSupelec, the National University of Singapore, and the DSO.

IFAR***, of which Bruno Sainjon has been Vice-Chair since 2021, was also on the agenda of the many meetings that took place at the airshow.

ONERA’s participation at the Singapore Air Show was a great success, and proved to be particularly constructive in terms of international scientific cooperation.

** SONDRA is a joint laboratory combining the skills of Onera, Supelec (Ecole supérieure d'électricité), the National University of Singapore (NUS), and DSO, Singapore’s National Centre of Defence R&D. In SONDRA, ONERA is fully committed to its role as intermediary between research and development. This collaboration is scientifically recognised on the international stage, providing the leverage to lead and to establish links with other actors in the field. The strength and importance of the partnership is largely based on radar R&D (historical topic) and optics (initiated in 2015). In addition to these two areas, the shared wish to structure a research programme on space was confirmed by both parties.

*** The International Forum for Aviation Research (IFAR) is the global network of aviation research establishments. It is the forum for dialogue between public research institutions worldwide. Its mission is to facilitate information exchange and communication on aviation research activities.
