Radars - When radars meet wind turbines
Wind turbines disturb the operation of radars, especially weather radars. Under these circumstances, it's easier to understand why three quarters of all refusals for wind turbine installation permits are due to the presence of weather radars. However, this also provides an opportunity for Onera to bring its expertise to the fore.
Laser - Onera supports "Year of the Laser" in France
Press release - January 14, 2010
The laser was invented 50 years ago, in 1960. To celebrate this landmark anniversary,
France launched the “Year of the Laser” at the Palais de la Découverte science and
technology museum in Paris on January 7. Since its creation, the laser has
revolutionized a number of sectors, especially metrology, or the art of measurement,
leading to the development of a host of applications in aerospace and other sectors.
Onera, the leading French aerospace research center, has focused on increasing the
power and reducing the size of lasers since the outset, contributing to a continuous
increase in performance and the scope of applications. Today, Onera is one of the
world leaders in lasers, a cutting-edge technology that still harbors a world of
potential.
Press release - Onera chooses SGI supercomputers to enhance its computing power and speed up its scientific research.
Press release - November 23, 2009
This new supercomputer will be used to enhance the precision of Onera’s computer simulation models, accelerate its digital simulation processes and adapt its computing resources to the use of massively parallel processing.
Press release - Thales and ONERA sign cooperation agreement on new surface wave radar
Press release - 12 October 2009
Thales and Onera have signed a cooperation agreement on surface wave radars. As part of the initiative, the two partners will be combining their scientific, technical and business expertise to provide the coastal surveillance export market with a new radar, the Coastwatcher 200.
