  • Issue 9 , August 2015 Life Prediction Methodologies for Materials and Structures

    The life prediction of structures is a strategic research area that involves multidisciplinary approaches covering multiple size scales - from the nanometer to the meter- and thus involves a great range of physical phenomena. For instance, the lifetime of a gas turbine disk or of the blade of an aircraft engine is dependent not only on the geometry and the applied structural loads, but also on the physical phenomena that control the local constitutive material behavior.

  • Issue 8 , December 2014 Aerial Robotics

    This issue of Aerospace Lab is dedicated to aerial robotics. During recent years there has been an emergence of small unmanned aerial vehicles that can be used for inspection or surveillance applications. With the constant miniaturization and cost reduction of electronic components, such as inertial measurement units, vision sensors and micro-processors, aerial vehicles weighting only a few kilograms can now benefit from advanced technologies that were used before only for full scale aircraft. This opens the door to ever more sophisticated machines, with strong perception and action autonomy

  • Issue 7 , June 2014 Aeroacoustics

    This issue of Aerospace Lab is dedicated to Aeroacoustics, the field of science that deals with sound generated by air flows and the possible interaction with solid bodies. As noise issues became a major environmental challenge over the past decades, aeronautic industries have paid great attention to Aeroacoustics for the design of aircraft, as well as helicopters.

  • Issue 6 , June 2013 Flow Control: the Renewal of Aerodynamics?

    The fifth issue of Aerospace Lab Journal is devoted to the interaction of aircraft, helicopters and launchers with lightning. A lightning strike to an airliner is a rather frequent and unavoidable threat. Several papers present the physical properties of lightning and storms. Experimental and theoretical studies of the direct effects of lightning on aircraft are described. Indirect electromagnetic effects are also depicted.

    This third issue of Aerospace Lab is dedicated to High Temperature Materials. This is a class of materials that has been at the forefront of research and development for almost fifty years at ONERA. A number of new materials and processes were invented and world class research was performed throughout these years. Concurrently, great progress has been made in the mechanics of materials to facilitate lifing analysis. However, these aspects are not presented in this issue.

     

     

  • Issue 3, November 2011 High Temperature Materials

    This third issue of Aerospace Lab is dedicated to High Temperature Materials. This is a class of materials that has been at the forefront of research and development for almost fifty years at ONERA. A number of new materials and processes were invented and world class research was performed throughout these years. Concurrently, great progress has been made in the mechanics of materials to facilitate lifing analysis. However, these aspects are not presented in this issue.

  • Issue 2, March 2011 CFD Platforms and Coupling

    This issue of the Aerospace Lab review is dedicated to Computational Fluid Dynamics. Recent advances allowing improvements in terms of performance prediction and design capabilities for aircraft and propulsion systems applications are described. A large panel of applications illustrate the state of the art in both domains thanks to the "elsA" and "CEDRE" CFD platforms that are considered as the reference by the French and the European aerospace industry, and by the research community.

     

     

     

  • Issue 1, December 2009 Optical Diagnostics of Flows

    Flow dynamics research is involved in all branches of science and technology: civil and chemical engineering, the automotive industry, energy, etc. Flow dynamics are even more central to aeronautics technology because they provide air lift to planes (non-reacting flow dynamics) as well as the moving impetus through combustion (reacting flow dynamics).
